John Dennis

John Dennis (Kerrville, TX) John's 49 years after high school graduation have been very interesting and fulfilling. The first two years he worked to earn extra money for college and to determine his occupational direction. John worked for Republic Steel, General Motors and Stone & Webster Engineering. After going to college at the University of Oregon, John came back to Columbus, Ohio, and worked with a company doing design work for bridge projects for the interstate highway system - I-75, I-71 and the West Virginia Turnpike. After four years, US Steel brought him to Chicago as a consulting engineer to help in the installation of reinforcing steel in their projects. Then with a phone call from John's brother in Houston, Texas who told John to get out of the cold, he headed south. John worked for Fluor Ocean Services as a cost engineer on projects from Alaska and California to Indonesia.....wherever oil was being drilled. This then lead John to work for Morrison Knudsen International where he traveled to countries such as Saudi Arabia, Australia and New Guinea as a cost control engineer. In 1985 John returned to Houston and worked with his brother who was a land developer. By 1990 he retired and began playing golf.

 

"After a few years of this, I decided I wanted to do something more interesting with my time. I sold real estate in the Lake Conroe area north of Houston for a few years. After moving to the hill country of Kerrville, Texas in 2002, I bought a distributorship with Synthetic Turf International of Jupiter, Florida. We sell and install synthetic turf for lawns, playgrounds, putting greens, athletic fields, etc. And most recently I have also begun selling virtual reality golf simulators."

 

John started as a volunteer for the Brecksville Fire Department when he was 19. For the last 40+ years, he has volunteered for eight to ten different fire departments from Maryland, Chicago, Colorado and Texas. He is still on the local volunteer fire department today.

 

John and wife Susan have been married for eighteen years. John has three sons and four grandchildren.
