Biography for George Grau as published in the 2009 Pollen Count
George Grau (Blissfield, MI) hired into Fisher Body (FB)-Cleveland as a General Motors Institute Co-Op Student in August of 1959. His FB employment continued after graduation in June of 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. George then married and was blessed with three wonderful daughters. His career was "well rounded"- he held positions of increased responsibility culminating as Superintendent of five different departments.
After he divorced and the FB-Cleveland closed, in 1983 George transferred to FB-Tecumseh, Michigan as a Production Superintendent. He settled into a town named Blissfield with a population of 3,200. He hoped to put down new roots. Unfortunately, FB-Tecumseh closed in 1987 which forced relocation. This time George transferred to FB-Euclid, Ohio, as a Production Manager and settled in Chardon.
In 1988 George married his best friend Pat, an industrial engineer and coworker. Their blended family included daughters Janet, Nancy, Dori and stepson Jared.
In 1990 the FB-Euclid plant closed and they relocated back to Blissfield, Michigan. Pat transferred to a GM plant nearby and George took an early retirement.
George then owned and operated GGI Construction, which focused largely on excavating. GGI and the acquisition and management of rental properties kept him busy until he retired in 2001. Pat retired in 2008.
"During our 20 years of marriage, we have travelled across four continents visiting 17 countries. We have also witnessed the growth of our family. We now have 18 in our family. We added three sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law, five grandsons and three granddaughters. We now spend our winters in Bradenton, Florida while maintaining our residence in Blissfield."
Current hobbies they enjoy include hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking and remodeling. "Those are all worked around church and family activities including 'quality' time with our precious grandkids." Travel remains a priority of George and Pat. They hope to cruise through the Panama Canal next. |
