Biography for John Halter as published in the 2009 Pollen Count
John Halter (Seville, OH) attended Miami University of Ohio the year after graduating from high school. John enlisted in the Army in 1963 and served 13 months in Vietnam, coming home in 1966. In 1969 John went to work for Ford Motor Company and retired from Ford in 1999 as a Maintenance Planning Specialist. John earned an Associate's Degree in Industrial Management, in 1975 from Cuyahoga Community College.
John met wife Mary 1968 and they were married in 1970. They have three children, two daughters and a son. John and Mary are blessed with seven grandchildren. Tragically, they lost their first grandchild when she passed away from SIDS in 1994 at three months of age. "We enjoy our other six grandchildren and we spend as much time as we can with them."
"In 1977 my wife and I built our home in Westfield Township where we still reside. One of our hobbies was adding on to and/or remodeling our home, but today just maintaining it is a chore. Our children and grandchildren live out-of-state so my wife and I get to do quite a bit of traveling. I still enjoy golf but I have given up baseball and bowling."
"I am an active volunteer in the Veterans of Foreign Wars with a national appointment as a member of the National Military Services Committee. I also serve as the VFW Department of Ohio National Military Services Director. This takes up quite a bit of my spare time and has managed to keep me busy dealing with soldiers and their families' hardships due to today's military deployments." |
